Jodie McNamara
Jodie McNamara is an Ottawa area activist and volunteer. Born and raised in Ottawa, she has been a writer, actress and Ottawa-area stand-up comic. She went to Canterbury High School where she studied Literary Arts, moving on to a diploma in Theater Arts at Algonquin College. In 2002 she went to South Korea where she stayed for two years teaching English as foreign supervisor at a school for children and youth. She spent the last seven years in Montreal, where she studied Political Science and Sociology at Concordia while teaching women and youth self-defense and rape-prevention with the White Tiger Group. She spent the last three years doing event planning and fundraising for Amnesty International - Group 16. In Ottawa, along with Capital Pride, she has worked and volunteered for the Otesha Project, the Salvation Army, and SPA Canada. Currently she is a part-time community organizer with Ottawa ACORN.
