Murray Lavigne

Secretary

Murray Lavigne moved to Ottawa from small town Ontario in 1977 and began his career with the federal government later that year.  After 34 years of dedicated service as a public servant, he is now enjoying retirement while  volunteering his time and expertise with the Bruce House, the Ottawa Knights (of which he has been a member for 22 years), Mr. Leather Ottawa (10 years as Executive Producer), the Village Initiative and the Ottawa Humaine Society.

He received a business degree in 1972. Murray spent 12 years working for the Union of Canadian Transport Employees, first as Secretary, then Chief Steward, Vice President and President before becoming a ministerial exclusion.

Murray’s Pride experience began in 2001 when he volunteered as the Security Coordinator. He came back in 2011 as the Parade Coordinator.  He is proud to be on this year’s Capital Pride Board as its Secretary and would like to organize the Capital Pride Awards Gala.

Murray looks forward to working with a wonderful team of pride board members, volunteers and coordinators.  He invites everyone to enjoy our 10 day festival this August. Murray would like to stress total inclusion in all pride celebrations and he urges all of us to stand tall and be PROUD regardless of our gender, sexual orientation, physical appearance or other stereotype perceptions.
